The Hot Zone Question 3

The Hot Zone encompasses several issues for thought. Is there an issue that you agree with? Disagree with? In your first line, identify which issue you are referencing (ex. animal rights, containment, animal research, protocols for biocontainment, etc.).

I agree with the way these scientists did their test on animal, particulary monkeys. Although I wish that they could've spared these animals, I believe that you have to do what you have to do when it comes to understanding and fighting a virus that seriously threatens the population. When it comes down to it, human lives count far more than animal lives. If we didn't sacrifice these animals for science, then we wouldn't, couldn't know and understand enough to save lives. We have to, absolutely have to know this kind of information in the effort to protect the public. And, if in fact these animals have an infectious disease, then they're doomed anyway. The least they can do is tell us about a disease with their bodies. In the effort to protect the public, the scientists who specialize in this kind of virus need to know the information that will save lives.

3) The animals have some rights, but when their situation threatens the human population the need to be contained and euthanized before they suffer. I think some things need to be tested on animals, like when people test cancer on dogs, but always in biocontainment suit.

( question 3) Animals have some rights on certain things. They should be tested for anything before they come to the U.S. The animals that are endangered should NEVER be used for testing. Also, they should be contained in a large land area for them to be tested and still be in their natural enviorment not knowing that they are being monitored. they should use an animal that is like humans but can mass reproduce in a short amount of time. That will make people feel more protected and safe. It also keeps the monkeys in a controlable number.

I seriously disagree with protocols for biocontainment. You have to go around the “hot zone” and check that all entrances are sealed before you even put up the decon shower. If you are the leader of a biohazard containment unit, and you are to lazy to go and even check, not even put tape, at least send the next in command to at least check! You are an army Colonel and you send recruits into an experienced job!

Animal Rights and Reaserch. Animals, mostly mokeys are being tested on to find human vaccines everyday. People at the C.D.C. are testing at this moment. these animals are subjected to cruel punishment, even though they did not do a thing. Thousands of helpless animals are imported from over-populated countries every year. Now there is an upside, one, it takes some of the monkeys out of over populated countries, two it lets humans study and dicover viruses and vaccines, but these are the only three. We as people are mercilessly murdering helpless creatures, I, personally, don't care if we all die disease ridden because we can find a new way to dicover vaccins that doesn't involve killing animals

Euthanizing Animals
I disagree with Euthanizing animals because as Catholics we beleive that Euthanasia is wrong. We believe that everything should die a natural death. If a doctor were to give a Euthanasia shot to an animal or person, he/she would be commiting a murder which is a mortal sin because it goes against the ten commandments. If the animal, like a monkey, died from Ebola then it would be okay. I also think that people should not dissect animals that were Euthanized because Euthanization is wrong in the first place.

To Paul: I agree that you should not use too many monkeys. They should be used for medical science only. I also agree that if they are sick we must find out about the virus because it is dying anyway. Good Comment.
